He deployed January 2010 and we found out at Thanksgiving that he was leaving. It sucked - not having much time to prepare. The whole year sucked, to be honest. I didn't take any classes prior to my husband's deployment. (Perhaps it's because I don't live anywhere near his unit.) It sounds like you have the right outlook on things.
