Phase 2 of Deployment

If deployments had phases, I think I'm on to Phase 2. It took about 2 months to get over the whole grieving period I think, for me. I'm not saying that I was crying for a whole 2 months and that I didn't have some good days in there, but at some point recently I realized I'm in a routine now, and I'm doing a lot better. There are still some bad days. They tend to sneak up on me. I wish I could predict them ahead of time. But they don't seems to happen as often now.

First of all, I finally scored a job. I had a job on Fridays helping to TA a class that's actually using my degree. But now I'm working at a running shoe store too! So I have something to do during the week now and a little extra spending money.

Second of all, I'm doing really well with my half-marathon training. Which just feels good. I've also been doing yoga on a fairly regular basis and I'm beginning to see an improvement in my flexibility (heck yeah!).

And lastly, James's R&R is definitely happening and it's happening soon. Less than 2 months away, actually! It was originally supposed to be in July, and I had mixed feelings about the change. We were going to be more than half-way when we got to R&R before.. now we will be about 1/3 of the way through I think. So it will be a little harder saying bye. On the other hand, I'm really excited to see him.

I had mentioned before that we were hearing some rumors about a shorter deployment, which would mean no R&R. I was really hoping that would happen at first. However, I'm really glad for those 2 weeks that he'll get off and that we'll get to see each other. I think it might be better for morale than it would have been to go a full 9 months without.. even if it means a full year deployment.

Omygoodness.. less than 2 months.. I can't wait!

PS: Ranger School must be starting up again. I am getting a lot more hits to my blog from Ranger School searches. Hang in there Ranger ladies!

  1. I definitely agree! I'm getting a lot of traffic from you and just in general. Hopefully all our knowledge helps ;) ha! R&R sounds so exciting! I love to have something to look forward and count the days down. We have been hearing lots of rumors about G's deployment getting pushed up to September! It would be great for us, especially with my graduation and job timeline but it's so scary. I'm going to need you this fall! Hope everything is going great! I just got my first pair of running shoes and I'm preparing for a 5k! Say a prayer for me! Haha

    1. And I think you'll be okay with the deployment.. you seem like you are pretty busy, so that helps a lot! Just remember that they make sure they are really prepared before they go over there. And your man is a Ranger.. so he's one of the best! Ah! Good luck in your 5k! Be careful, racing is addicting. ;)

  2. I'm glad to hear that you've gotten in the groove! I think the unpredictability of bad days is the worst part. You just never know when they'll hit. Keep hanging in there, Girl!*

  3. Yay! What running store?! Naperville Running or that Lulemon store? We need to catch up on life; I feel like I'm missing some highlights :)

    1. I'm working at the New Balance store in Naperville. :) Not quite as cool as Naperville Running Company but still pretty sweet. We are gonna start a running club from the store soon!

  4. Glad to hear you're doing so well. I'm just now getting into a routine. My husband left about 3 weeks ago. Things are starting to feel normal again, but who knows when the next bad day will hit.

That's awesome that he's getting R&R. My husband will be gone the full 9 months with no R&R, which I have mixed feelings about. Obviously I would love him to be home and it would certainly be nice to have a much closer date to countdown to, but at the same time, his being home throws me out of whack. With this deployment, he was gone at NTC and then back for 2 weeks and then deployed, so I got so used to being by myself only to have him come home and then leave again. My routine was all wonky and I swear it made it harder. That being said, I'm totally jealous that you get to see your hubby so soon. Enjoy every second!

    1. Aw. Thanks for commenting Chelsea! Yeah.. I still have mixed feelings about James just barely missing the switch to 9 months. But oh well. Deployments before this were 15 and before that, 18 months. I can't even imagine. But hang in there girl! I'm glad you are into a routine. You're in my prayers! :)
