Things I Love Lately

1. Coconut Stuff
I used to hate plain coconut water. But then I've been trying to watch my sugar intake (with all the bad rep that sugar is getting lately) and now things are suddenly tasting sweeter to me. So I treat myself after long runs and harder workouts now. As for the coconut oil, it's actually an antibacterial and an anti-fungal. I'm super paranoid about being barefoot when I go to my weekly yoga or pilates classes. I've caught athlete's foot before and I don't care to ever catch it again. So I'm been just rubbing a little bit on my feet after class when I get home. At room temperature, it's basically the consistency of lip balm. And it smells so coconut-ly nice. Also, coconut is pretty trendy right now so it's fairly easy to find this stuff all over.

2. My new Star Wars shirt
I only kiss Rebels.
And yes, my husband does approve. This is actually the third Star Wars shirt that I own and James is actually quite proud of me for it. James is my Han and I'm his Leia.. so of course the shirt is perfect.

3. This youtube video:
I actually saw this idea in a different video about a year ago by thelipstickdiaries but she doesn't seem to have it posted anymore. I naturally have a LOT of hair/ it's really thick so this didn't work very well for me before. But I recently got my hair thinned out for the first time and so I decided to try it again.
Before (just before bed)
After!
Basically you take a shower, get it mostly dry, then twist it up with the headband like in the video (with maybe a little mousse or hairspray). No heat. Less time. Honestly, I think it's my favorite internet discovery in a while (probably since I found that carrot muffin cream cheese filled recipe a while back). So basically it takes me about two minutes to curl my hair now, as long as I plan ahead. I've gotten a couple weird looks from my family before bed. But it's so worth it.

4. This iphone cover:
I don't actually have an iphone yet. James and I don't have smart phones yet and we've been trying to decide between android and iphone. I've been able to play around with both and I like the iphone way better. I told James that I had already picked this Doctor Who cover out and I got accused for picking the iphone just because I couldn't find a Doctor Who cover for the android. hehe. That's not the case, but I can't deny that it did play a factor.

I'm also aware that I think I'm making it painfully obvious that I'm a bit of a sci-fi geek girl. Maybe I should have made my blog "Geeky Running Army Wife".. it just doesn't flow quite as well.

  1. Oh my goodness so many of my favorite things in one blog post! I am obsessed with that Doctor Who Iphone case. Lane and I are going to make the switch to smart phones this summer. I might need to add that case to my collection. I use coconut oil for cooking every day. I actually have used tea tree oil to disinfect my yoga mat before. I will have to try the coconut oil for my feet.

    1. that's a cool idea for your yoga mat. I've just wiped it down with antibacterial wipes before.. but that probably just gets the surface.

  2. Your hair looks gorgeous! And I just started doing hot yoga and you've got me freaked out. I hadn't even thought of foot bacteria!

    1. You might be okay. Like I said, I'm paranoid. If I worried you, you should be able to find some coconut oil at whole foods and I even saw some at walmart. :)

  3. I really wish I could figure out a way to do curly that works for my hair. I watched a Fitnessista video about hot rollers, but my hair never holds the curl when I use those. I wonder if I'd have more success with the headband.*

  4. First of all, I love coconut oil. I use it as a deep conditioner. I put it on dry hair, pop a shower cap on and go to bed. In the morning, I wash and condition as normal and my hair is amazingly soft! I also use it on sunburns. It really seems to help soothe the burn and prevent peeling and dryness.

Second, where did you find a headband to use for that tutorial? I either have super skinny elastic ones or too stretchy fabric ones that get weighed down and weird. It looks so easy and pretty, but my headband stash is not cutting it.

    1. omgoodness, it seems like you can use coconut oil for anything! I will have to try that conditioning trick.. I have to wash my hair way too much from running.

I think I just got that headband from the hair section at walmart.. or maybe jewel-osco. They are the "goody" brand and you can't tell from the picture but it's got little silicone bumps on it so it doesn't slide.

    2. I recently saw something on Pinterest claiming to have a list of 101 uses for coconut oil. It's truly a great thing to have and use and most definitely better than chemical lotions and potions.

I'll have to check out the Walmart. Unfortunately, they're pretty small around here, but I'm on the lookout now after seeing your luck with the headband method!

  5. Haha this is why I love you :) I'm jealous of that hair trick... I wonder if it would work in my hair?! Sorry to hear about your athlete's foot but glad you found something that keeps it away :)
